Thread Veins

This is a very common condition with a very simple cost effective treatment. Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure developed almost 150 years ago to eradicate unwanted, non-functional veins. Although used primarily to remove varicose veins, thread veins (red, and blue) and spider veins of the legs and thighs, unwanted veins at other sites, including facial veins, can also be treated by sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy has been safely and successfully performed for many years. The procedure involves the injection of a sterile solution (called a sclerosing solution or sclerosant) into the vein. The purpose of the solution is to produce irreversible and irreparable alteration to the unwanted vein. If this is achieved, the vein will ultimately be absorbed.

What results can I expect?

Immediately after the treatment you will see mild redness and perhaps a bruise on the treated area, you will then notice a gradual improvement in the treated area. It can take a few weeks before you see results, as the vessels need to dissolve.
Optimal results are seen 2 months after the treatment although you’ll see some improvement throughout this time. After your recommended number of treatments you can expect to see 60-80% improvement but some people see significantly higher results than this.

After your treatment you will be able to resume regular activity and be encouraged to walk, to increase blood circulation. We will also provide you support hosiery to ‘compress’ the treated vessels and will give you your personal post treatment care instructions, dependant on your treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of treatments required could vary depending on the number of vessels to be treated and the area in which they are located. This will be discussed at your initial assessment.
